Wheat Watchers meets monthly on the 3rd Wednesday at 7:00 pm at Kathy's house.

We've talked the talk, now it's time to walk the walk. I'm letting the blog, newsletter and e-mail do most of the talking and leaving the meetings open for much more DOING!

Earthquake Info.

Posted by imawheatwatcher on April 16, 2012

Tomorrow is the Great Utah Shake Out. Emergency Essentials put together a post about different areas or things you might be doing when an earthquake hits. It is worth a read. Here Β is the link… Great Utah Shake OutΒ .

Also tomorrow night, April 17th, is our April Wheat Watchers meeting. It starts at 7 pm and Lisa R. will be showing us how to make our own spice mixes. That way we can control the ingredients and the salt in our everyday cooking.

March Wheat Watchers Meeting

Posted by imawheatwatcher on March 14, 2012

March’s Wheat Watchers will be on March 21st. I will have a list of non-food storage items you should have on hand. I think when we think of food storage we tend to forget this part. And trust me there are some items you don’t want to be left without. πŸ˜‰ This will be the LAST online class. In April we will resume having classes at my home.

February Wheat Watchers Meeting

Posted by imawheatwatcher on February 21, 2012

Welcome to Wheat Watchers! I am sorry I have been behind on the blog the past couple of days. Home life got a little crazy and it slipped my mind. No worries, all is fine now and I am back on track.

Here is the promised link to Homemade Hamburger Helper mixes. These are great because you can assemble the dry ingredients first and store in a ziploc bag. When you are ready to use it bring it out and VOILA!

Hope you enjoy!

January Wheat Watchers Meeting

Posted by imawheatwatcher on January 18, 2012

Welcome to tonight’s meeting!

I would like to guide you over to a really good site called “foodstoragemadeeasy.net“. They have a wonderful list of how much will fit into #10 cans and what will fit into buckets. Since case lot sales will be happening soon, I thought this would be something of interest. Sometimes you can get wheat, powdered milk, oats, etc for cheap in a bag instead of a bucket.

Enjoy! Let me know if you have any questions!

P.S. I did have my baby on the 5th. All is well and we are adjusting nicely. πŸ˜‰

January Meeting

Posted by imawheatwatcher on January 11, 2012

Next week on January 18th, I will be posting notes about how much weight does a #10 can hold and how much weight some buckets hold. I wanted to do this so when we find a good deal on a bag of wheat, powdered milk, or oats we can figure out how many cans or buckets we will need to buy to store them.

Also, don’t forget I am still available through emails or comments. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me. I would love to help. πŸ˜‰

December Wheat Watchers Class

Posted by imawheatwatcher on January 4, 2012

Yes, I am fully aware that it is January. However, I had somehow forgotten to post December’s meeting in December and I didn’t want you to miss out. I am nice like that. πŸ˜‰

Many of us would love to own a sun over. However, it may not be in our budgets this year. This post from Safely Gathered In is fantastic on teaching you how to make your own. It is low cost and works pretty well. What I love about it is that it uses charcoal. That way if it isn’t a particularly warm day you won’t have to wait all day for your bread, or whatever you are baking, to bake.

Now, if you are one of the few lucky ones that are able to purchase a sun oven this year here is a link to a site of sun ovens that come highly recommended.
