Item of the Week

Posted by imawheatwatcher on April 28, 2011

Every Thursday I will post an “Item of the Week” to assemble our Preparedness kits. Don’t worry if you have just started and we are half way through the list. This will continue on a loop so we will eventually get back to the beginning. Start when you can, do what you can, and we will become prepared.

Right now we are gathering items for: Youth and Adult Emergency Kits (72 hr kits)

This week get 1 emergency poncho (one size fits all and children sizes also available at many stores in the camping section) per kit.

Sun Ovens and CERT

Posted by imawheatwatcher on April 27, 2011

Laurel M. just sent me this information. If you want one you will have to go in and preorder AND prepay. Also there is a CERT meeting on Thursday, April 28th (tomorrow), that is NOT just for CERT people. Here is what Laurel said:

“This month’s meeting (at the Windsor Stk Ctr, about 130 E 1600 N) is about SANITATION, the #1 worst disaster situation, after any disaster has happened. The City Emergency Manager will be teaching.”

Below is the information on the Sun Ovens:

Dear neighbor,

THIS MONTH ONLY: Save now on the Sun Oven! Thanks to Sun Ovens International’s special offer, we will be selling the Sun Oven for an incredible price:

$229.00

OR

(with pans/WAPI)
Two 3 quart enamel pans
Two baking sheets
Two loaf pans
One water pasteurization indicator (WAPI)

(Regularly priced at $289.95 not including pans or WAPI)

Now is the time to get prepared. This is the best pricing we’ve ever offered on the Sun Oven, and is much cheaper than the online price. Plus, you don’t have to pay for shipping!

You must prepay and preorder to get the Sun Oven at this price (we need to know how many to order!), and must be ordered before May 1st. The ovens will be available to pick up at either of the free Sun Oven classes we will be having in May.

Inspirational Sunday

Posted by imawheatwatcher on April 24, 2011

“Provident living will never be out of fashion. This is not a
retreat back to the 19th century but the direction we need to go as we
move headlong into the 21st. The same skills and ideas for which
Relief Society has always stood hold many of the answers to the
challenges we are facing worldwide.”

This week gather a gallon ziploc bag. We are going to be putting together a small hygiene kit in this gallon ziploc bag to go inside our bigger kit. That way the little stuff won’t get lost in the bigger bag. If you were in this ward at the beginning of 2009 we put these kits together with Lisa R.

Food Storage Recipe Monday

Posted by imawheatwatcher on April 18, 2011

I thought that it would be a great use of this blog to post food storage friendly recipes every Monday. I have gotten several comments that people would LOVE more recipes. If you have a recipe that you love and would like to share, please email it to me!

Easy Spaghetti Sauce

*My husband is a picky eater. He loves to eat pasta. When we first got married I would make a spaghetti sauce that I loved and he would spend the first 10 minutes of the meal picking out everything he didn’t like and telling me all about it. After about 5 years of this I had had enough. I made this simple recipe one night and he won’t let me make anything else. It is lucky for me since it is all shelf stable.

2 (8 oz) cans or 1 (15 oz) can of tomato sauce
1 1/2 – 2 TBS Italian seasoning

Open cans and pour into saucepan. Add seasonings. Warm through.

Enjoy!
