  • Get it Together

Wheat Watchers meets monthly on the 3rd Wednesday at 7:00 pm at Kathy's house.

We've talked the talk, now it's time to walk the walk. I'm letting the blog, newsletter and e-mail do most of the talking and leaving the meetings open for much more DOING!

Master Mixes

Posted by imawheatwatcher on October 27, 2010

First of sorry I wasn’t as prepared as I had planned to be. I hope and pray that you were able to learn something from our meeting. I promise next month will be BETTER!

If you were unable to come to the meeting you missed trying some delicious homemade hot chocolate and getting a pancake mix to take home. No worries! I have the copies that you need.

I found the recipes and booklet for master mixes from USU extension. Click on the first link. That is where I got the hot chocolate recipe from.

Now for the homemade pancake mix. I used a recipe from a lady in our ward and adapted it so all you have to do is add water and oil.

Mama Hecker’s Famous Pancakes

(adapted by Kathy Lawrence)

Combine Dry Ingredients:

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
3 TBS powdered milk
2 TBS powdered eggs

Put into a ziploc bag and date it.

When ready to use;

Combine dry ingredients with:

1 ΒΌ cup water
1 TBS oil

Mix well until no lumps. Pour on hot griddle and cook until light brown.

Enjoy!

CHALLENGE: The first 2 people to leave a comment with a recipe to make more than just a single recipe with the below pancake recipe will win a prize! Good luck!

Our next meeting will be on November 17th. It will be a cooking class. Please leave a comment if you have any suggestions on what you would like to learn in the next month’s meeting. See you then!

This sounds like a cool one. I’ve heard of having things on hand so you can just add to it and make a number of things from, but I don’t do anything like that myself… Yet! πŸ˜‰

To keep it simple, I would use 1 cup of mix to 1 cup water and 1 TBS oil still. What do you think??
Could also place in quart or gallon ziplocks already measured to feed your family one meal. Empty bag and add water/oil – that’s what I like!

FOOD STORAGE PANCAKES (for #10 can, holds 12 cups. Might need to use some mix when you make it!)

10 cups wheat flour (1 cup)
    3 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon salt (1 teaspoons)
    1/4 cup + 3 tablespoons baking powder (2 teaspoons)
    1 3/4 cups + 2 tablespoons pdr milk (3 tablespoons)
    1 1/4 cups pdr eggs (2 tablespoons)

FOOD STORAGE PANCAKES (21 cup canister, it’s what I have πŸ™‚

20 cups wheat flour (1 cup)
    1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons salt (1 teaspoons)
    3/4 cup + 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon baking powder (2 teaspoons)
    3 3/4 cups pdr milk (3 tablespoons)
    2 1/2 cups pdr eggs (2 tablespoons)

  3. […] Lisa R. will be getting a prize. She is the ONLY one who made the pancake mix I gave out at the Master Mixes meeting into a bulk mix. […]
