Item of the Week

Posted by imawheatwatcher on July 29, 2010

Every Thursday I will post an “Item of the Week” to assemble our Preparedness kits. Don’t worry if you have just started and we are half way through the list. This will continue on a loop so we will eventually get back to the beginning. Start when you can, do what you can, and we will become prepared.

Right now we are gathering items for: Office Kits

This office kit is a small one designed to go in a desk drawer.

This week get a travel size wet wipes. Most stores keep them in the travel size section of health and beauty.

Food Storage Recipe Monday

Posted by imawheatwatcher on July 26, 2010

I thought that it would be a great use of this blog to post food storage friendly recipes every Monday. I have gotten several comments that people would LOVE more recipes. If you have a recipe that you love and would like to share, please email it to me!

Homemade Icing

1 tsp. vanilla
2 TBS butter, softened
1-3 TBS milk
3 cups powdered sugar

Put all the ingredients, but the milk, in a bowl. Slowly start beating with a hand mixer. Once it starts getting combined add a TBS of milk. Continue to add a TBS of milk until it is the consistency that you want.

Recipe from my mom

*If you have ever been to a birthday party at my house this is the icing on the cupcakes. I don’t buy store icing. I love this stuff! We use the leftover, if there is any, to make graham cracker sandwiches.

Inspirational Quote

Posted by imawheatwatcher on July 25, 2010

“When a person is very hungry, the taste of food will change for him… In times of emergency, the Lord seems to provide a way to help our bodies adapt… The ingeniousness of mankind becomes evident in times of need. When he is presented with a problem or challenge, if he is in a healthy spirit-which hopefully we are- he will find solutions that he never dreamed of… He will find ways to survive.”

This week we are gathering our family’s immunization records. My Dr. gave me a yellow cardstock immunization record when each of my kids were born. My mom kept mine and I have that copied as well. Make copies and put them in your container.
